A Valentine Heart Craft! With Valentine's Day is just around the corner, here's a super cute and easy valentine heart craft just perfect for children to make!
Snowy Valentine by David Petersen is a wonderful book to read to children for Valentine's Day. And, there are so many fun activities that go with the book, like this Valentine Heart Craft for kids!
While the kids are making their Valentine heart craft, how about listening to our Valentine Song for Kids in the background!
Craft items you will need:
- 2pcs construction paper
- Hole puncher
- Washable paint
- Paint brushes
- 12 inches of yarn or ribbon
- 2 plastic grocery bags
What you do:
Direct children to place two pieces of construction paper on top of each other, and then fold them in half.
Have the children cut out half of a heart shape, so that they have a whole heart when they unfold the paper.
Once done, have them unfold and open their hearts.
Make sure that their heart shapes match perfectly.
Next, help them staple both of their hearts together, leaving enough of a gap for their hand to fit inside later.
Using a hole punch, have the children punch out two holes near the top of their heart.
The next step is gluing on the rice.
Pour glue into a small tray.
Have the children apply the glue using a paint brush. This can be easier for small children than using a glue bottle.
Have the children sprinkle rice over the spots where they placed the glue.
When the glue is dry, let the child paint their heart shapes.
Once the paint is dry, let the children stuff their heart shape with plastic grocery bags.
Two grocery bags will give a nice shape without overstuffing and disturbing the staples.
Have the children thread yarn through the holes you punched earlier.
Feel free to tie a bow at the top.
And, voila, the children have their very own Paper Valentine Heart Craft!
Let's hang it up!
