FEATURE BOOK: Dear Mom by Peter Wilson
We're excited to feature this book for Mother's Day. It's by local Ajax, Ontario author Peter Wilson and was a surprise gift to his own mother on Mother's Day last year as a tribute to their special relationship. The illustrations are by local Port Perry, Ontario artist Carol Matsuyama. The story is a letter written by an older man which follows the mother/son evolving relationship from newborn baby to adulthood... how it changes and how it stays the same.
When Mama Comes Home Tonight by Eileen Spinelli
This heart-warming story was one of our favourites when my kids were younger. We loved the rhythm and the old-fashioned illustrations. Being a working mom certainly has its challenges but this story shows how precious evening rituals are between mother and children.
I Love My Mommy Because by Laurel Porter Gaylord
This beautiful board book is a treasure for younger kids with its gorgeous illustrations of baby animals and their mothers. It's a companion book to the popular "I Love My Daddy Because..." and shows how well both animals and humans take care of their children!
Mommy Hugs by Karen Katz
This board book explores all the different kids of mommy hugs... starting off with a Good Morning Sleepyhead hug and working its way throughout the day. It's a great interactive book perfect for storytime during the day or at bedtime!
Absolutely nothing can fully prepare you for your first child and all the new challenges of parenthood. Lucy Scott does a great job of doodling her way, with honesty and humour, through all the important "first" moments of her baby daughter. This is a great gift idea for Mother's Day or for a baby shower!
