Simon welcomes spring by Gilles Tibo
We love the "Simon" series of books by Canadian author and illustrator Gilles Tibo (unfortunately they can be hard to find now). In this story, Simon is most anxious for spring to arrive so he tries everything he can think of to help it along. He learns that spring will only come when it's good and ready but that it is well worth the wait!
Grandpa's Sugar Bush by Margaret Carney & Janet Wilson
One of our favourite spring traditions is visiting a sugar bush. This story follows one boy's visit to his grandfather's farm where he learns all about the woods where the sap is collected. He helps his grandpa with the tapping, collecting and boiling of sap and the story ends with a great bunch of yummy pancakes with fresh warm syrup.
Mouse's First Spring by Lauren Thompson and Buket Erdogan
This simple and colourful book is a great introduction for young children to the spring season. Mouse encounters many signs of spring from a butterfly to a frog and more. We liked that this book is part of a collection which includes Mouse's First Summer, Mouse's First Fall and Mouse's First Snow.
When will it be Spring? by Catherine Walters
Alfie is a cute bear cub who is having trouble sleeping through his winter hibernation because he is so excited about spring arriving. He keeps waking up, thinking he is hearing signs of spring. This is a great bedtime story with a beautiful mountain setting and is also now available in a board book.
Spring is the perfect time to get your kids outside and exploring nature. This a fabulous collection of nature guides that help kids identify birds, plants and animals. They also include great activities and a scrapbook for recording any findings.
