With the change of season in the air, you probably have the itch to do some cleaning and decluttering. If you aren't sure where to begin, the kitchen is a terrific place to start. It's a space you use every day, and when your kitchen is organized and clutter-free, it's easier to cook, clean up and enjoy meals with your family. Whether you love to cook or simply do it out of necessity, with an organized kitchen, you save time and hassle every single day.

One of the quickest ways to jump start an organizing project is by decluttering; clearing out anything you no longer use, need or love. And the kitchen is no exception. Here are some common pieces of clutter you can clear out of your kitchen:

  • Expired food or canned goods you know you'll never use

  • Extra dishes, plastic cups, souvenir or freebie coffee mugs

  • Torn or faded dish towels

  • Plastic containers without a lid or excess plastic containers

  • Cookbooks that no longer fit your lifestyle or eating habits

  • Bulky appliances you never use like juicers, bread machines, rice cookers, etc.

The best part is, when you focus on decluttering first, you can make progress in small snippets of time, while waiting for the pasta water to boil or the coffee to brew. Work on your decluttering a little bit at a time, and before you know it, your kitchen will be a clutter-free and wonderful place to be.
