Categories: Family Fun Family Guides

One of our favourite summer activities is park hopping. We pack a picnic, and our bathing suits and head off to a different park each week across Durham. We're especially fond of those water pads!

To help us with our Summer Park list, we asked Durham parents to tell us their favorite parks. We didn't hear from many parents outside of Pickering, Oshawa, Whitby, Brooklin and Ajax, so if you have a favourite park and live in Clarington, Brock, Scugog, or Uxbridge, please let us know! Send us a Tweet (twitter.com/ParentSource) or post it online on our FaceBook page (FaceBook.com/ParentSource).

Here are the top 15 in order of most popular: (No surprise, the lakeside parks are on the top of the list.)

  1. Lakeview Park, Oshawa (waterpad)
  2. Rotary Sunrise Lake Park, Whitby (waterpad)
  3. Rotary Park, Ajax (waterpad)
  4. Beachfront Park, Pickering (waterpad)
  5. Folkstone Park, Whitby (behind McKinney Arena)
  6. Vipond Park, Brooklin
  7. Kinsmen Park, Whitby (splash pad)?
  8. Whitburn Park, Whitby
  9. Portage Park, Whitby (Portage Ave, Whitby Shores area)?(splash pad)
  10. Jack Wilson Park, Whitby
  11. Beatrice Park, behind the Oshawa Central Library
  12. Frenchman?s Bay, Pickering

Thanks to Kimberly for adding the popular Spaceship Park in Whitby to our list. (officially known as Baycliffe Park, at the corner of Twin Streams Rd and Baycliffe Drive in West Whitby)

The playground at McLean Community Centre on Westney Rd in Ajax was also mentioned to us by Sarah on Twitter. It's got a skateboard park as well as a splash pad.

Another fabulous park (with a wading pool) is Adam's Park in West Hill/Scarborough.
