Categories: Family Fun

The Government of Canada has designated March as 'Read an eBook Month' in Canada.
'Read an eBook Month' is a celebration of digital reading, and is intended to educate and inform the public about the pleasures and advantages of reading electronically. The Clarington Public Library is helping the community celebrate by offering an expanded selection of eBook and eReader classes!

"The eBook programs we offered in January were extremely popular," says Sarah Vaisler, Coordinator of Marketing and Communications. "It was only natural to offer more programs on eBooks to meet customer demand, and since March is 'Read an eBook Month' the timing is perfect!"

Technology experts from the Bowmanville Staples store will return to the Clarington Public Library, Bowmanville Branch to host 'eReaders Made Easy' in three sessions. Each session will be tailored to a specific device: the Kobo, Sony, or Mobile eReader (for iPhone, iPad, Android, and tablet users). Each session includes an eReader presentation, a Q&A session, and one-on-one opportunity to speak with a Staples tech expert about your device. In addition, Clarington Public Library staff will again host the Webwise sessions, 'eBooks 101', which helps customers understand how to gain access to free ebooks using their Clarington Public Library card. All programs will be offered at no charge.

Clarington Public Library provides access to approximately 12,000 eBooks through OverDrive, made available by the Southern Ontario Library Service (SOLS) and the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport's $15 Million Investment in Public Libraries. OverDrive allows customers from 1,500 Ontario library systems to access a range of eBooks and audiobooks for use on their computers, eReaders, smartphones, and tablets. Between January 2011 to January 2012, Clarington Public Library saw close to a 300% increase in eBook circulation through OverDrive.
