The Town of Ajax, together with the support of the Rick Hansen Foundation, Kaboom, and the Home Depot, is building a playground at the Greenwood Conservation area in one day.
The Town of Ajax is getting a new park on Friday, October 27th. No, they haven’t started to build it yet, and they won’t actually start development until the morning of that Friday. Together with the financial support of the Rick Hansen Foundation, Kaboom, and the Home Depot, and the hard work of hundreds of volunteers, Ajax is building a playground at the Greenwood Conservation Area in one day.
The concept of building a playground in one day comes from Kaboom, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to creating play spaces for children across North America. The Town of Ajax applied to be part of Kaboom’s one- thousand playgrounds in one-thousand days initiative and were thrilled when they were selected.
According to Tim Murphy, the Town's Operations and Environmental Services Coordinator, “the playground is truly a community initiative”, and has involved everyone from concept to design. Even local students from Caruthers Creek Public School sat down with organizers to provide input on what kids really want in a playground. The playground is designed with many accessible components, enabling as many children as possible to do what they do best – play.
